Automation Rules are one way to save time processing your shipments in Stamps.com. As your orders import, Stamps.com will check if an order meets the rule qualifiers. If it does, then Stamps.com applies the Automation Rule you set up. Review all Stamps.com options for automation.
Automation Rules use IF/THEN logic to determine what orders qualify and what action to perform. You decide the Criteria (the IF part of the rule) and the Action (the THEN part of the rule).
For example:
-
If the rule criteria is Total Weight with a parameter of Is Less Than > 1lb, then the action to Set Service will apply to any order that imports with a weight less than 1 lb.
-
If the rule criteria is Requested Service with a parameter of Expedited, then the action to Set Service will apply to an order that has the expedited delivery option selected.
-
If the rule criteria is Total Order with a parameter of Is Greater Than < $200, then the action sets Tracking with Signature Required to all orders more than $200.

-
Automation Rules only work with our browser-based Stamps.com Online. Stamps.com Online works with any computer using any browser.
-
You must have at least one online store connected.
Either the E-Commerce plan or one of our Legacy plans is required to connect a store and view the ORDERS tab.
To create an Automation Rule:
-
Open Settings from the ORDERS tab.
-
Open Orders in the sidebar and select Automation Rules. Then click +Add.
-
Name your rule in the New Rule window and select which orders you want the rule to apply to:
-
Apply these actions to EVERY new order that is imported:
-
Only apply these actions to newly imported orders that match a specific criteria:
In this example, we are creating a rule for orders that meet specific criteria.
-
-
Click Add Criteria. Criteria is the IF part of the statement Stamps.com uses to determine if an order qualifies for the rule.
-
Select the criteria and corresponding parameters from the drop-down menus.
In this example, we use Total Value, with a parameter of Is Greater Than, and set the value to 200. Review a complete list of rule options in Automation Rule Criteria & Actions Reference.
-
Click Add Criteria to create additional conditions for the rule or set the action.
If all criteria for the rule exist for an order, then the rule action applies to the order.
Next, set the Automation Rule Action:
-
Click Add Action. Action is the THEN part of the statement Stamps.com applies to your order.
-
Select the action and corresponding parameters from the drop-down menus.
In this example, we selected Tracking - Signature Required. Review a complete list of rule options in Automation Rule Criteria & Actions Reference.
-
Click Save Rule.
Now, every imported order with a value greater than $200 will require a signature upon delivery.
You can add, edit, or disable any of your Automation Rules whenever you like. Changes to Automation Rules will only apply to future imported orders.
How Do My Rules Apply?
-
Automation Rules apply to your imported orders sequentially, starting at the top of your rues list. You can arrange your Automation Rules to have them in your desired order. This is useful if you have a rule that adds something to an order that a later rule uses as a criteria.
-
Automation Rules override your marketplace Service Mapping.
-
Automation Rules will apply to all your stores unless you add a criteria stating the rule only applies to orders from specific stores.
